As a practice, we start with a comprehensive picture of the given program and perceived needs of our clients and transform that into a design that iterates and progresses from sketch to construction. We work in the traditions of the profession and often reference classic styling and proportions while using responsible modern materials and processes. Our work is meant to intentionally fade away and assume the clients lifestyle, identity, or the natural and urban environment it is situated in. The firm embraces a scale of work that requires dexterity as we shift from large corporate clients to homeowners who want small detail driven revisions. This flexibility has afforded us the opportunity to work with an amazing array of clients around the country doing a large variety of built work.
Based out of Richmond, Virginia, we work everyday to improve the built environment of the Commonwealth. Our office has historically relied solely on referrals - a testament to our commitment as designers and businessmen to provide our very best work, regardless of obstacles we face in realizing our designs. The last few years have seen our workload and our reach around the region growing, and we are embracing new types of work across different industries and for a larger variety of client. We believe that growing should not limit our work to fewer styles or genres. Instead, we have taken our design philosophy and applied it, with rigorous focus, to each new design opportunity.
Eric Hepler - Principle
Licensed and practicing architecture in Virginia since 1990, Eric works personally with all of his clients to create pragmatic space that builds on his many years of experience.
Philosophy
Our design philosophy is born out of years of "practicing" the profession. We embrace an attitude of ceaseless learning and constant iteration in our studio. The built environment sustains life, supports society, and shapes culture. As designers we bear an awesome responsibly to ourselves, our clients, and our world to create the best solution and breathe beauty through our work. Our responsibility to our clients and our profession impresses on us a desire to see a design thesis permeate through the site and general form to the details and finishes.
